Now I have a craving for Castiel's world-famous pancakes. They're angel-light!

After 33 days and 141 episodes, I'm finally caught up! Maybe it's cheating, since I didn't invest 7 years in it like others have, but screw it. I feel no guilt. I do feel like I crammed for a final exam, though, and I probably didn't absorb the episodes like others have. At any rate, yay! Now I can watch the new episode next week and...crap, no more mainlining it marathon-style. It may take some getting used to.

Neither here nor there, but after watching a few gag reels, I was surprised to learn that Mr. Padelecki was neck-in-neck with his screen brother when it game to the goofball mugging and cutting up. Is it a Texas thing?

Also, a few shout-outs to the following for their contribution over the past 7 seasons (in which I may not bother researching some of the actors' or characters' names, and they're certainly not in order):
Jeffrey Dean (although I still feel like if I'd blinked, I would've never known he was on the show)
Misha Collins as Castiel (big fat DUH)
Jim Beaver as Bobby (whom I never thought I'd see again after his 1st appearance)
Vampire guy from B&W episode (he had a coupon!)
Chad Everett as Old Dean (sciatica!)
Crowley, Crowley, Crowley (scenery-chewer extraordinaire)
Mark Pellegrino as Satan
Genevieve and the blonde chick as Ruby
ASH (Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell shout-out much?)
That-guy-with-telepathy-who-made-his-enemy-obsess-over-gay-porn
Barry Bostwick (Bosworth?) as has-been magician
Convention Dean and convention Sam (convention Dean was older brother in Home Alone, right?)
Becky (liked the actress, the character made me cringe)
CHUCK the prophet (the "bad writing" line was, IMO, the show's best moment ever)
Mother-from-Suite-Life-with-whoever-those-twins-are as Sheriff Jody
Trickster/Loki (just looking at him makes me giggle)
LITTLE SAM!!! (so cute!)
Rufus (amazing actor, seriously)
The wonderfully gaunt and creepy Death (were those fried pickles or pickled fries?)
Eric Johnson as that corporate demon stooge (better acting in 1 ep than a whole season of SV)

and probably a dozen people I'm leaving out. They all helped the J-boys make the show delicious!

LJ seems to be awfully sluggish today. Hmmm.

I believe SPN has to be the most cracktastic TV series ever. Is there any other show out there that embraces the gay prOn the way they do? I mean, I listened to Misha Collins doing the Disasterpiece Theatre podcast and was floored. The man has NO filter. And then they go and have Dean apparently addicted to hentai. Makes one wonder just how far they would go if they were a premium-cable series!

I couldn't tell if "The French Mistake" was a love letter to fans or a restraining order. :) Either way, it was certainly a palate cleanser. I honestly can't think of any other show that does more fan service.

I was going to spoil myself for season 6 to find out what is going on with Sam, but I guess I'll just keep watching and see how it unfolds. Why must they torture the boy so often and so gleefully?

So I have to wonder about something that has been bothering me all during S5 of SPN. The burning question. The ultimate puzzle. The mystery beyond all other mysteries:

What happened to Sam's tan?

OK, not very important in the scheme of things. I'll just chalk it up to the Demon Blood Detox program.

There's so much I still like, especially the clever writing. Even so, I'm feeling like things are dragging A LOT in places. I get it. Dean is stop-lossing. Too many tours of duty, too little faith in the one closest to him. I'm just thinking the show would be stronger with a 13- or 14-episode season, but the fans wouldn't go for that. So we end up with filler-type shows that eventually tie in to the arc and, thankfully, are actually pretty fun to watch. God, writing for TV must be maddening.

a little handwringing is part of the game

Eh, I've been a little bummed by SPN early S5 angstus extremis, but then I saw [info]zedmeister gave me a blue dragon and I'm feeling much better! Thank you, Zed!!

Now off to read some of "The Orphan Master's Son" before my book club meeting tomorrow. It's kind of like a North Korean "Great Expectations." Honestly, I'd rather be watching the Winchesters, angst notwithstanding. Addiction? What addiction?

"shout-out" is an understatement

So I'm 4 minutes into S4 E19 and I think I pulled something from laughing so hard. This must've been the episode that made all the Wincest fans' heads simultaneously explode, although that can't be right since I know you guys still exist!

I absolutely couldn't adore this show more if it came to my house naked and fed me fried chicken. :)

too much fun

I have a couple of episodes left before I'm done with season 3, and I couldn't be more in love with this show. It's fascinating to see how much better it's gotten. Though some of the punchlines are ugh-worthy, JA pulls them off with a seemingly effortless ebullience and charm. These guys are obviously having so much fun with this show. "Ghostfacers," "A Very Supernatural Christmas," and "Mystery Spot" had me practically rolling on the floor in hysterics, and yet they also manage just the right amount of gravitas when they have to. It's similar to how I felt watching "Buffy," and I didn't think anyone could recapture that kind of lightning in a bottle. Anyhoo, just wanted to share the love. Better late than never!

The day got away from me yesterday before I could say Happy Valentine's Day! Got to hang out with girlfriends and dish about all sorts of stuff last night - who needs some guy giving me candy and flowers, anyway?!

On a fannish note, in the SPN S2 episode "Playthings," I don't understand why the lady left her mother upstairs in a chair to stare out a window after she had a stroke. Has she not heard of home health? Occupational therapy? Physical therapy? That to me was the creepiest aspect of that ep. Yikes. Still, them being ID'd as a couple yet again was simply adorable. The tongue-in-cheek, self-referential humor is one thing I've grown to love about the show.
